Leafs: JVR and Jake Gardiner

Montreal: Galleger, Prospect( Jułlson,Sherbac or Mccaron) and 1st 2017

Fills the needs for Montreal with that Scoring forward who will beat the 30 goal mark again this season. He will greatly help Montreal's offense. They also get one of the most underrated Dmen in the NHL. He's defiantly not a top 2 Dman but he's easily a top 4 Dman that Montreal is looking for. He could create a nice presence on a line with Weber. I'd say Gardiner and hjalmarsson are at the same leval. Galleger would bring a new preasence to the leafs.

Did you compare gardiner to hjarlmarsson?! They are polar opposites. Gardiners biggest asset is his speed and fluid skating but he needs improvement with decision making in his own end and risk taking. Hjarlmarsson can get around but isn't a rushing type D and will block anything and is a beast his side of centre that makes the safe play all the time.

As for the trade, I don't know why leafs would do it. Don't need the forward prospects, Juulsen isn't going to make an impact for them anytime soon and Gallagher, as good as he is, is an expensive role player (albeit one of the best at it) . Leafs have heart and soul checkers that can chip in some offence (hyman, brown, soshnikov, leivo) that make a lot less and are doing a great job.
