The Leafs need a number one centre someone to count on to win faceoffs as soon as they figure this out they will make the playoffs. This is where Joe Thorton comes into play. A good leader and yes he hasn't won a dam thing but he needs a change he was shocked to have his "C" stripped from him I am sure he will never forgive or forget for all that he has done for San Jose IMO both parties need to part. So what will it take for both teams to accomplish a culture change in which they both need bad
TML - Kadri, Lupul, Gardiner, 3rd pick
SJS - Thorton, Marleau
Salaries almost match and accomplishes culture change in both teams

1.) Salaries might match up, but talent sure as hell doesn't. Just because the Sharks might want to shake things up, doesn't meat they should get rid of two of their best players for players who don't come close to matching them talent wise. If the Sharks move those two, it won't be for nothing.

2.) I can't see either team making this trade right now. Maybe in the offseason, if SJS struggles.

3.) To add to my post both players are aging 35+ and as per Sportsnet the Sharks are not working its a real mess why not get younger with promise yes its true the way it looks on paper the Leafs probably win this trade but please remember both players are aging and quickly the Leafs may need to add but not much

4.) I'd rather have 2 seasons of the 35 year olds than undeveloped Kadri and 3 years of Glass Lupul. Plus Kadri would be the third line center on the Sharks. Not worth it for SJ.

There is very loud whispers that the Leafs and Oilers are talking and talking big. Just 2 years ago Edmonton wanted David Clarkson real bad! They even offered Clarkson almost 1 million a year more but Clarkson said no. Well he doesn't have a no trade. I am more then confident that something could be worked out
TML Clarkson, Kadri, Gardiner 2nd pick
EDM Perron, Eberle, Petry
This trade works for both teams
TML gets some cap relief Kadri and Gardiner needs a change and Clarkson never really worked here
EDM needs a centre and a strong winger who leads by example

theleafinsider

1.) Funny, Very funny.

2.) So the leafs get the three best players in the trade lol sounds about right

3.) 25 Nov 2014 18:54:23
Really hope that's a bad joke.
Gardiner = Petry
Kadri < Perron
Clarkson + 2nd = 0 (because Clarkson has negative value)
Which leaves Eberle.

4.) Is this a joke

5.) 25 Nov 2014 19:29:20
how si perron > kadri.

they've put up relatively similar numbers over the last couple years, kadri is young and cheaper. he's also a centre which gives him a further edge.

the leaf bias around here gets pretty funny.

6.) Same goes for edmonton fans and there bias please edmonton trade your crap to flyers please

7.) K even if you say Perron and kadri are equal and petry and Gardner are equal clarkson and 2nd are no were near enough for eberle case closed

8.) The trade as constructed is just plain unrealistic. Forget trade value.

And even if the value was fair (which it isn't), how does this help Edmonton?

9.) Y r leaf fans so eager to trade kadri when they hve a weak center core

10.) If Clarkson has negative value then what is yak worth?? One bag of pucks or two?

11.) Eberle is the only proven guy

12.) Lets be more realistic

Gardiner = petry
Kadri = perron
Clarkson+2nd

13.) 26 Nov 2014 02:46:22
^I agree Kadri and Perron I would think are pretty close to even in trade value.

14.) Kadri + Gardiner + 2nd > Eberle + Petry
Clarkson < Perron

(If you want to disagree with me, just think: it's Toronto's 2nd. This is Toronto we're talking about here).
Edmonton may still the trade, but not by as much as some people think it may be. Plus, if each team needs a new face, this might be the perfect deal for each team. I'm on board.

15.) 26 Nov 2014 08:54:59
@thajazz: Kadri + Gardiner + 2nd > Eberle + Petry? Are you serious with that.?

@paolozza: Your statement just shows that you seem to know next to nothing about hockey. Clarksons negative value does not (or only as a combination with) come from his "bad"play, but from his ridiculous contract, that no team would take on unless they get some very good additional pieces, too. Yakupov is on his rookie contract, so you probably mention him because of his "bad" play.
So that's just a bs dumb comparison. Period.

16.) Draisaiti.i don't think you have a clue about hockey at all to be honest contract or no contract. Has yak done anything to live up to his first over all status?? Not at all buddy. Clarkson had an off year last year no doubt. This year is playing better but at least he has played some solid hockey in his time. Yak has yet to show us anything. And remember 1 st overall buddy he needs to show us a lot more Clarkson who walked into the nhl undrafted.

17.) @draisaitl_94 the only reason he's viewed as a bad player with a negative value is because of his contract. If he was still in the $1m-$2m range, he would be viewed as a bargain. If Toronto retained 50% salary, IMO Edmonton would take this trade. There's a 31-40 overall pick, a 2nd line center, a d-man who is decent, and a checking forward who scores the odd goal here and there. They're giving up a RW, which Yakupov can easily take over for if he keeps this production up, another checking forward (Perron is why I can see you don't like this deal) and a defenseman, which, they're getting a replacement for anyway.
And I'm sorry, Kadri, Gardiner, and the 2nd should be equal to Eberle and Petry, with Clarkson still being worse than Perron.

18.) Clarkson has 6 goals this year, that does not sound like a negative.

19.) 26 Nov 2014 16:28:50
You guys don't read, lol.
Clarkson isn't a bad player, I've never said that.
He's just NOWHERE CLOSE to being worth 5.5m per year. Nowhere close.
Thats what gives him negative value.

And Yakupov still has potential, he isn't playing bad this year. Maybe a change of scenery is all he needs.
Look at Voracek. He wasnt doing too well in Columbus, too. Now he's leading the league in points.
Not saying Yakupov ever will, just an example for how a change can benefit players.

20.) @Draisaitl_94 I already said if Toronto retains 50%, it's a good deal for Edmonton. See, I read your post.

21.) 26 Nov 2014 21:49:11
yea TOR isn't retaiing 50% for 6 years. 2.75 mil I dead space? i'd rather keep clarky over that.

Edmonton wants to trade Perron the Leafs should inquire
EDM - Perron, 2nd pick
TML - Kadri
Kadri needs a change

theleafinsider

1.) Who is the Leafs 2nd Line Centre

2.) No thank you from toronto

3.) Over value on kadri!

4.) Over value Perron

5.) Horrible trade for leafs they need kadri they hve a weak center core
