Toronto Trades:
2019 1st Round Pick
RW Kasperi Kapanen $863,333
RW Nathan Horton IR $5.3
Toronto gets a much needed right handed shut down defenceman to play along side puck movers Rielly or Gardiner and would fit in great with a babcock system who are in win now mode with the Tavares signing.
They also shed Horton's $5.3M cap hit in the deal which will give them more options down the line. Their 1st rounder will most likely be a late pick so not the end of the world there
Vancouver gets another 1st round pick and gets a quality prospect in Kapanen to add to the cupboard. They take on Horton's deal for the next 2 years which they can easily afford. It also opens up a spot on D for Quinn Hughes

I don’t see Canucks ownership ltaking on Hortons contract. It’s uninsured, so most players on LTIR, an insurance company pays 80% of it instead of owners. Owners on the hook for all of Hortons. Not many can/ will do that.

Take out he Horton contract because he’s never going to play again so that cap gets erased onto LTIR but he’s still going to get paid and out of any team in the league willing to pay that it’s toronot so I don’t think it’ll ever get moved or anything else. Apart from that trade seems pretty fair tbh. Canucks get a pick most likely 25-31, and receive a top 6 potential forward and Toronto gets what they want which is a good rhd while losing a roster player but they gain a winger back that could play 3rd mostly 4th like which is where Kapanen would have played this year anyways.
