Thoughts

1) canes don’t need Defense
2) that’s way too much for 1 year of Karlsson
3) Sens aren’t in a position of power when it comes to negotiating a trade because Karlsson has made it clear he’s leaving now or in a year.
4) Carolina probably wouldn’t feel they have a great chance of keeping Karlsson beyond this year
5) hanifin is an RFA and skinner a year away from UFA, are Sens really going to be able to negotiate long term deals with them with how their own organization is looking? They’re best to get Draft picks who won’t know anything other than that organization to compare it to.

Ryan is going where ever Karlsson goes that much was already stated.
So Carolina can keep skinner and add a b+/ a- prospect instead and take back Ryan as well the rest of the deal can remain the same.

For that offer, Carolina would tell Ottawa to get bent, in my opinion.

Do you have any idea how negatively that will impact the return Ottawa can get for Karlsson?
Do you think that there are many teams that are:
1. In a position where trading for Karlsson makes sense?
2. Can also afford to take on almost $14 mln in combined salary for Karlsson and Mr. Cap Dump?
Insisting Ryan is included in the trade will severely limit the market for Karlsson, and subsequently the return for the Senators. They would not get anything close to the above including Ryan. If they are going to trade EK they are far better keeping Ryan out of it. Eat Ryan's contract and plan for the future.
But hey, if you want to keep on living in Rambo's fantasy land where Hoffman gets a top prospect and the 10th overall, be our guest. Just be prepared to be the punchline around here again.

A 2 million overpayment on a top 6 forward who still puts up solid numbers is not negative value. the guy is SLIGHTLY overpayed and that's it. karlssons insanely high value cancel that out like it's nothing.
This negative value garbage has to stop. gaborik may have negative value right not but Ryan certainly does NOT!
The ignorance to his abilities is unbelievable on here.

Ottawa and Montreal will never be trade partners because both Bergevin and Dorion don't win trades and there would need to be a winner.

Ok. Born and raised Sens fan from Ottawa here. First off with Duchene, Stone and Karlsson needing large contracts (7m, 7m, 12m) soon and 2 very ugly contracts on our books with Ryan, Phaneuf and another few smaller 2 year no trade contracts for players like Thompson and Burrows ( who is not going to get us a bag a pucks let alone a 3rd. ) we are in no position to take on Tavares nor would he likely wanna be here after this year.
I love that we got so close last year to making it to the stanley cup final but give your head a shake and come back down to earth. We gave away Methot for squat, lost wingels, Stalberg and macarthur as well.
Dorion and Melnyk are killing us. Gives away Karlssons partner and gives up Turris, First (protected if top 10) and a First rd'r (bowers) for Duchene.
realistically/ hopefully we trade away people who have value but are not essential like Hoffman, Smith and ceci and try to dump Phaneuf or Ryans contract somehow.
Brassard has value because he is am inexpensive centre on the books but because of that as well and the fact our owner is cheap he is likely not going anywhere.
