Let's say Oilers traded Nugent-Hopkins for a no 1 D (ex. : Hamonic) .
MTL trade: Plekanec, Fucale et 2e rnd 2016 (or 1st 2017)
EDM: Eberle et 4e rd 2016
Edmonton wants to install a back checking mentality to its young players and needs a good veteran who can show the way as their young centers develop.
Plekanec's contract (6M) will be up in 2 years, just as the Oilers will need space to resign McDavid.

Oilers don't need Plekanec, Fucale or more picks. Especially at the expense of their established players.

Yeah 100% this doesn't really benefit the oilers tbh. And nuge for hamonic won't happen either oilers would need to offer way more for hamonic.
