The Canucks, Penguins and Habs could all use a shake up.

Canucks send Pouliot and a 4th round pick to Habs for Jordie Benn and goalie Charlie Lindgren.

Canucks send Markstrom to Penguins for Riley Sheahan, Canucks retain 1 million of Markstrom contract this year and next.

Canucks Goalies for the remainder of this season Nilsson and combo of Lindgren/Demko neither have to clear waivers so the two can go up and down.

Not a Leafs fan but long term this might make sense. This would be a draft day trade.

To Arizona
A.Mathews

To Toronto
D.Strome and two 1st round picks and a prospect.

This frees up cap space for Toronto to resign Marner, Gardner, and Nylander. Strome has 2 more years at under a million per.

Good for the league to have Mathews in his hometown.

I think ya take out the 2 firsts and replace it with a 4th. Strome and a 4th should be fine.

Not enough

3.) 25 Oct 2018 04:00:54
Sosa’s drunk again.

4.) 25 Oct 2018 04:48:15
Lol. I was kidding Leafs 17.
But. hey. not a bad idea. Lol.

5.) 25 Oct 2018 08:41:29
I know you were kidding Sosa. You’re smarter than that.

6.) 25 Oct 2018 10:49:46
Talking to Leafs fans I'm pretty certain not being able to afford Gardiner is a cap problem they are thankful for.

7.) 25 Oct 2018 13:33:59
You don't trade a first overall pick unless he is a bust or doesn't live up to expectations, so far Matthews has.

8.) 25 Oct 2018 14:06:05
What's wrong with Gardiner? Mtl will gladly take him and offer u a second rd pick if he's that worthless.

9.) 25 Oct 2018 16:13:54
Watch Gardiner play and you tell me.

Almost every leaf game I watch he will do something spectacular offensively that really stands out, only to have a defensive blunder a few shifts later that makes you wonder what was going through his head.

The Leafs need defensemen who can actually play defense, first and foremost. Having puck-moving and offensive ability on top of that is obviously a plus, but not as important as being sound in their own end. For the $6 mln or whatever Gardiner's point totals will probably have earned him on his next contract, I think the Leafs gladly let him walk. If you're a team that has the cap space and can partner him with somebody who offsets his defensive shortcomings (MTL may actually be a fit there), and maximize the use of his offensive abilities (power plays, offensive zone starts, etc. ) he could be a good add.

@unsportsmanlike that's sounds a lot like the way subban was here. Be careful when gardiner leaves he might start to be considered the best defenceman in the world too lol.

11.) 25 Oct 2018 23:02:35
Haha. I was thinking the same thing Habby.

12.) 25 Oct 2018 23:53:32
Yep you guys are totally right -- I remember those days and the discussions at the time are eerily similar for sure.

if Jake Gardiner wins a Norris I'll come back on here and eat crow, but I won't be losing sleep over that tonight.

13.) 26 Oct 2018 15:19:54
Gardiner is very similar to Subban Gardiner is a better skater but Subban isn’t a muffin and plays decently physical and has a ridiculous shot whereas Gardiners shot isn’t great.

Training Camp is right around the corner some rfa's still available.
Here's a deal towards the end of pre-season. If Reinhart hasn't signed with Buffalo

Van: sends Goldobin and Gaunce and one goalie likely Nilsson and a conditional pick

Buf: send Reinhart and Ullman

Buf upgrade in net, add a possible top six forward and add size to bottom six.

Van: Can afford to pay Reinhart 4 or 5 million a year.

If Reinhart only wants $4 mill, he would be signed in buffalo first off. Secondly, sabres are really high on Ulmark. He wouldn’t be a throw in. They left William Carrier exposed which they didn’t have to, and added a draft pick to Vegas just for McPhee’s word that he wouldn’t select Ullmark in the expansion draft. If you think they will now, a year later, add him to the best player in the deal to get an average at best goalie, a decent prospect, and a bottom 6 forward you’re wrong. Lol.

2.) 07 Sep 2018 18:19:14
Lol can Buffalo not afford 4-5 mil a year and I’m just going to say no from Buffalo.

3.) 07 Sep 2018 18:52:11
I think ya need more than that for Reinhart.

4.) 07 Sep 2018 20:21:15
There just isn’t a deal to be made between these 2 teams.

5.) 07 Sep 2018 20:34:58
Also Nilsson had a 3.44 GAA and .901 sv% in 27 games. I understand the Canucks weren’t a good team in front of him, but he is far from a proven upgrade on anyone’s goaltending. Also I’m sure buffalo is watching the leafs closely as they would have first grab at Sparks/ Pickard on waivers who both have as much potential as Nilsson without giving up Ullmark and Reinhart.

6.) 07 Sep 2018 23:10:51
Lol easy pass from Buffalo.

Van: Vanek for a pick at the deadline.

Draft day deal

To Vancouver: Ryan O Reilly
To Buffalo: Ben Hutton, N.Goldobin and the pick from the Vanek trade.

deadwing

1.) 03 Jan 2018 23:06:51
Don’t think the pick for Vanek would be high enough to entice sabres on this. They might take a chance on Hutton but I don’t think goldobin would interest them much. They have a ton of young nhl and AHL forwards that they will want to give a chance to first and watching Casey middlestat at the juniors, it’s only a matter of time before he’s making a big impact. Plus nylander. Goldobin doesn’t crack there top 5 forward prospects.

2.) 04 Jan 2018 05:05:54
Vancouver doesn't do this.
No reason for them to trade for a player with a heavy contract.
