Some of the trades I've seen that ship jokinen out of toronto are ridiculous.

Jokinen is not worth much, nearly no value at all.

Here's my guess at how it'll come around.

NYR: 6th round pick (2015)
TOR: Jokinen

He's a depth forward at best, rangers need one. Something like this makes sense. A 6th should be more than enough to get jokinen.

StaalingForTime

1.) I think he could get a 6th as well. I think Florida might chance it since he played his best hockey there.

2.) 15 Feb 2015 22:13:45
Except for the cap, but ya that's probably what he'll fetch.

3.) 15 Feb 2015 23:16:41
what do you mean except for the cap? he's owed liek 300k the rest of the year, almost every team has enough room to add him if the wish.

4.) Torontos play is to start a bidding war for playoff teams looking for a depth forward and there are a few of them.

I agree he has little value but I could see a team willing to pony up a 4th if a GM is under pressure to make a move dedline day.

They should stick him in between kessel and JVR for a few games and see what happens. It can't get much worse anyway.

TB: Stamkos, Carle
LA: Richards (1.25% retained) King, 2019 6th

TB might not have the cap space for stamkos next season, might as well dump him to another team that has very little cap space. 6th rounder evens it all out.

StaalingForTime

1.) This is a joke.

2.) If the Avs are trading Landeskog it's going to cost a lot more than that.

3.) 13 Feb 2015 02:27:19
Troll.

4.) TBL needs to add. Probably Johnson and Drouin would even out the trade IMO.

BOS: 2nd round pick (2015)
BUF: Stewart, 6th round pick (2015)

I think Stewart's recent play may have bumped his value up a bit, but not enough to fetch a second, hence the 6th.

StaalingForTime

1.) Maybe a prospect instead of pick. I think that is a the right price, Murray may be able to squeeze more if there is a bidding war among several teams.

Jets have interest in Winnik.

WPG: 3rd (2015)
TOR: Winnik

StaalingForTime

1.) Maybe but if there's a possibility for him to sign with WPG it would probably take more

2.) Winnik's a good 3rd liner, I don't think he'd cost more than a 3rd rounder

I've heard that Bergevin is very interested in vermette. There will likely be a bidding war for him. If Montreal was to snag him up, I would think it becomes something like this.

MTL: 1st (2015), lehkonen
ARZ: vermette

If the bidding gets more intense, maybe it could be a better prospect than lehkonen, but this is my rough estimate as to what MTL could get vermette for.

Thoughts?

StaalingForTime

1.) I would hope bergevin doesn't trade a 1st because he helps build the habs on drafting not with rentals. Plus they won't have cap space to resign Vermette in the summer for 6 million or more which is more than pleky's contract for practically the same skill set.

2.) Same here, I'm hoping he goes after someone like Stafford instead. Much cheaper option

As a Montreal fan, I'm curious in hearing your opinions in how Subban has performed in his first year of his massive contract. What do you guys think?

IMO, he hasn't been as flashy, he's been solid at times, especially offensively, but there are still those ill-advised turnovers here & there, & at times, he looks like he's lost in the defensive zone. His discipline is really bad at times too.

I wouldn't call him a $9 million player (yet), but hopefully he becomes more responsible defensively & becomes more disciplined. I think he could live up to the contract though, he has the skill to do it.

StaalingForTime

1.) He's playing more PK (ha ha ha) time and is on pace for +50 pts.
That's about all you can ask from him.

It's a tough thing with a contract like that bc it creates a lot of unrealistic expectations and people will constantly be comparing him to other d-men that are "better" but at a lower salary hit (which is a poor analysis but obviously one you can't ignore).

Of all the pending UFAs that are likely to be traded, which player do you think will be the biggest positive & which will be the biggest negative surprise among all of them?
I personally think that Vermette or Sekera are going to be good surprises for the team that acquires them. & I think the worst acquisition will be Stewart or Green.

Who would you say?

StaalingForTime

1.) Depends heavily on where they go. If Mike Green was traded Anaheim (just an example) he would likely have a huge impact on their PP.

Personally I don't think Sekera will move (he will be extended by Carolina).

Just another example of leafs fans overreacting. They're playing well now & I've heard "deep playoff run" out of people. You need to remember, that 9-2 debacle was only a couple weeks ago. Streaks happen throughout the year. I wish that all fans would just quit overreacting. Not just leafs fans (although they seem notorious for it) but when a team loses a couple games, it's not a reason to start the rebuild and fire everyone. Know what I mean?

StaalingForTime

1.) 03 Dec 2014 07:11:59
naw man, leafs have won a few in a row, imgetting that map out again and starting parade route plans. anyone wanna share ideas?

2.) I agree that it was a complete overreaction, as is most things in Leaf Nation. Maybe that's the source of all the problems, it's either the highest high or the lowest low. Pretty tough to manage expectations and patience when you're always dealing with extremes.

But I digress, I think part of the reason for the reaction was those two bad loses by Toronto were the culmination of a lot of pent up angst on the part of the fans, created by the Leafs inconsistent play and general lack of engagement, highlighted by their response after the loss to Buffalo. The reaction may have been more about fans having a tangible opportunity to vent and call out the team’s core/leadership because that is hard to do when they are winning (or at least not losing so terribly).

3.) Leafs vs Flames
Stanley cup 2015!!

4.) Deep playoff run? I can see it, just, it's in a few years from now when Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, Ekblad, and McDavid have all retired.

5.) By the time crosby ovi stammer ekblad mcdavid will have retired there will be other good players if not better players to replace them.

Of the teams that are in the playoff picture as of right now, or a bubble team, which do you see falling out of contention, maybe to the point of becoming sellers at the deadline?

& of the teams that are near the bottom of the standings, which team do you see turning it around & becoming a team that may be a buyer at the deadline?

StaalingForTime

1.) It's a little too early in the season to start talking about the deadline and bubble teams. BUffalo is only 5 games out of the last wild card spot right now, 4 games for Edmonton in the west (yes I know that it's too simplistic to say only 5 games out - but my point is the margins aren't big enough yet).

Further to that point, the likelihood a "bubble team" goes into sell mode for anything noteworthy at the deadline is unlikely IMO.

With this said, San Jose in the west is a team to keep an eye on. IMO they are talented enough to win their division, so I am not counting them out. However they have struggled this season and if they can't turn it around and happen to be on the outside looking in, they have a few contracts they would like to move.

The East is a tough one. So many teams all hovering around the same place. who knows if there will be buyers, let alone sellers. As a said in my second point I can't see a lot of bubble teams make noteworthy trades. Maybe you see Toronto move a guy like Franson, Winnik or Santorelli if they are out of it. Or maybe Philly tries to get some cap relief. Tough to say.

What do you think about the diminished role of the enforcer? Just last year, teams were still trading to acquire one (Parros, westgarth) & now, many can't find a job, what are your thoughts on how the game has changed when it comes to the designated enforcers?

StaalingForTime

1.) 19 Nov 2014 06:14:55
other than CGY, who seems to want to make an entire bottom 6 of mcgrattan clones, the enforeceris pretty much done. there are, and will always be, a few kicking around in the league, but the times of every team having 1 or 2 are behind us.

imo its for the better too, I don't mind watching a fight, what I don't liek is watching those enforcers actually play hockey. I know they only play maybe 7 mins a night, but the majority of them are closer to boxers than they are hockey players in regards to their athletic skillset.

2.) The reality is teams can't afford to waste a roster spot on a guy who's best attribute is fighting. Ideally you have one or two guys on your team who can contribute all over the ice and if necessary drop the gloves (i. e. Lucic).

Otherwise it's way more important to be team tough, then it is to rely on one guy for that job.

3.) 19 Nov 2014 18:02:58
the only problem with the lack of fiighting is that the game has the potential to become like the higher levels of minot hockey in regards to the amount of cheapshots and dirty hits that happen.

i don't think they occur out of lack of respect for the game or other player, I think the vast majority are heat of the moment things that once they guy sits down and thinks about it he'll really regret it.
