Yes the leafs gave a 37 year old Patrick Marleau 3 years at 6.5. He’s been really good this year, probably will be next year and If he's not in year 3, you deal with it. A lot easier to predict and plan 2-3 years down the road than 9 years. If Weber was 28 and had 9 years left, I’d be interested for sure. At 32, not so much. I’d rather them take their chances on either trading for doughty/ OEL this off seasoN if LA and ARI don’t think they can get them signed, or even find a really short term plan and chase one of those big guys in free agency next summer.

Hey Balsam, you do know that Marleaus actual pay goes down each year right? The final year of his contract his pay is in or around 2 million. His contract will be easy to dump in year 3 to a team needing to reach the cap floor. So yes, it is a much better contract than Webers.

Marleaus cap hit is 6.25 across all 3 years. Salary tho is 8.5m, 6m and then 4.25mill.

Weber will only be paid 1 mil per season in the last 3 years of his contract I'm sure that will be just as easy to get rid of to a team trying to reach the cap floor. plus if he retires which I'm betting he will nashville will be the ones paying for it. And paying they will. 8 16 and 24 mil cap hit penalty for them in those last 3 years if he does. or at least that's the last thing I heard.

Yeah at 1million cash to Weber they can probably move him at the end. Only problem is to move those last 3 years, even though it’s only a million cash, you have to have a team who wants a very veteran Dman and has 7.5 mill cap space for 3 straight years. It would have to be a team at the very beginning of a rebuild. No average to good team is taking 7.5 cap hit for a 1 mill player for multiple years. And you’re right about the cap recapture totally screwing Nashville. Just hope he has more loyalty to habs than preds by then. If he retires, he saves the habs and screws the preds, ornhe can just stick around and show up to collect a cheque and hurt the habs cap in an effort not to screw preds.

When I suggested Lehner to the Flyers you said Buffalo and Philly are in the same situation and want to rebuild. So why would Buffalo want this and next year is Pacioretty if they are rebuilding?

I'm just thrown off on the fact Keybabs said Buffalo is rebuilding when I proposed a Lehner to Philly idea. Now goes and makes this trade. If they are rebuilding as he said then why would they want Pacioretty? Kinda contradicting himself.

Well I don't think we could get Hannifan lol. would be nice. I would like to see possibly a bigger deal if we are going to trade Pacioretty. possibly something with him and Lindgren being the main figures . I'm not sure what Lindgren value is however, as we have only seen a small sample. He looked good. but so did that Hamburger dude in Ottawa a couple years ago.
Im not sure what the answer is to change things around in Montreal. Ya they have won a few, but still far from a contender.
What do u guys think of Lindgrens value. if packaged with Patches, what do u think we could get?
Im not sold on Darling as the number one in Carolina. so maybe Lindgren could be something they would want?

Not bad. Philly seems to always be looking for a goalie. Lindgren has shown flashes of being great and sometimes has looked very average. Simmonds I believe has a slight advantage over patches for contract and physicality factors. So pretty close.

I'm not sold on this. Simmonds had always had better linemates. Patches hits 30 to almost 40 every year, with Desjarnais and Danault as his centerman. not disrespect to Danault., but he's not the calibre of player that Simmonds has had.
However, this season, Patches had looked disinterested at times. So, maybe it's time to change., but I jus see Simmonds as a winger who's a good 2Way guy but, his offense is going to sputter bad in Montreal. Philly would be good to keep him, he jus seems to be the prototypical Flyer.

I feel like the Islanders will have a point blank conversation w him in the offseason, where they ask him "Do u plan on resigning w the team? " If he says yes then resign him giving him whatever money he wants idc. He's been the lone face of the franchise for years w hardly any help ever.
If he says no to resigning then trade his butt and get as many assets as u can. Make sure it's to a contender before the season starts and not at the deadline. Superstar players never get what they're fully worth when they get traded at the deadline.
