So with all this Duchene trade talks, its got me wondering, since the Flyers need a shake up offensively, what would it take exactly for Philly to acquire Duchene? The Flyers D is a joke at this point and has been for a few seasons now, but I keep hearing that recent defensive draft picks are coming up and could make an impact on the blue line for the Flyers.
(i. e Gostisbhere, Morin, Hagg, Sanhiem, Provonov)
A defensive prospect would most likely be included in the package but who else could be involved? I doubt Philly wants to part with Giroux, Voracek or Simmonds, but I'd assume anyone else playing on the current roster right now is on the table. Any thoughts?

lets assume he does get traded to philly, which i doubt, but that's not the point. i'd say it'd start with couturier + morin/sanheim/provorv + 1st for duchene and something of decent value that philly would want.

Cap deal

PHI
Umberger

ARZ
Chipchura

Umberger is just not fitting in with the Flyers, who have some serious cap issues right now. Umberger takes up 4.6M, and has scored 15 points in almost 70 games

Chipchura fills his role of a bottom six C decently. He's paid only 875 thousand. He recorded 14 points in 70 games, so the talent is pretty much even.

Why this deal is necessary for both teams is because Flyers need cap space, and Chipchura's low cap hit and short term deal helps them out now.

Where as ARZ obtains a proven player, (albeit, passed his prime) who can help impact their top/bottom 6. Depending on needs, Umberger is capable of playing both C or LW. His contract expires in 2 years, so the Coyotes won't have to bare with him for long. Umberger's 4.6M cap won't affect the Yotes in the slightest, who have almost 15M in cap space. Who knows, Umberger might find his game in ARZ, playing with younger, skillful Fwds.

How can The Leafs acquire Couture from SJ? He is LONG overdue for an opportunity at becoming a 1st line Centre.

Although Thornton himself might be the first guy SJ wants to trade, and could in fact be a target the Leafs pursue, I wanted to get a couple idea how the Leafs can trade for a younger, faster forward who can take up the 1st Centre position.

From SJS perspective, they would cut ties from Thorton before losing Couture.

In terms of what it would cost, start with Rielly and Nylander probably. Then add from there.

Couture isn't going anywhere, but what GR81 said is a good start

Couture is my favourite player. Puts up solid points while playing a two way game, it would take a lot to get him out of Doug Wilsons hands.

Schenn and Sanheim could be on the table, but I personally don't think a first would be involved. Maybe a mid range pick if one is added at all.

Schenn showed some promise the last 2 seasons but defiantly isn't of the same caliber as Gaudreau, and Sanhiem is regarded as a highly skilled defensive prospect.

Flyers have an abundance of defensive prospects, so losing one might not be the absolute worst thing in the world, considering the return would be an Allstar caliber player in Gaudreau

Personally I would love to see this deal happen though, Would be nice to see a young home town talent on any team IMO, especially since the Flyers lost out on Bobby Ryan a few years back.

How is that not enough?
Sanheim (20) is a highly skilled defensive prospect and Laughton (21) is a good C who has the potential to become a top 6 caliber player. And a 2nd. This proposal is good enough.

This deal is basically 2 first rounders and 2nd round pick for 1 first rounder who hasn't cracked the NHL yet, even while playing with highly skilled pieces on TB

This deal is fair IMO, although Tampa could probably get a better offer from a team willing to give up more than they should.

So in order to accomplish this trade, the NHL has to establish a rule in which each player under contract can have their salary lowered or raised based on their performance? Judged on a yearly basis I assume?
This completely undermines the entire purpose of a long term contract. Or a contract in general.

This is a strange proposal.
Would love to see Richards back with the Flyers (if he finds his game)
But why would WSH take a chance on signing Richards, training him,
then trade him to a budding rival for a bottom 6 centre and winger, both of whom have expiring contracts at the end of this season.
Not to mention, the late picks WSH would receive for a prospect and 3rd.

Sorry, but this doesn't make sense.
TML is trying to rebuild, and not that Giroux is old (28) but the Leafs are not trading Riely (a cornerstone for their future defensive unit) for a player in his prime right now.

Also if they were trying to trade for a skilled Centreman, TML would add.
Or they could try to trade for Duchene since his name was on the market
Or pray that Stamkos does decide to come home.

I like Brown, I think he could step it up in a year or 2 and maybe make the team, hope he can become a top 6 guy but I'm not too sure atm

I liked the Kessel trade for these reasons.

-Losing Biggs was a blow, but Kapanen is a more skilled player. A future top 6 guy that the Leafs can use. I can see Nylander and Kap playing well together

-Harrington plays a Stay-At-Home role, which is never bad. Could develop into a 2nd/3rd pairing Dman, plus, he is big upgrade from Erixon, who hasn't lived up to expectations AT ALL

-The piece that will make the most immediate impact was Spalling, although he isn't a 1st line C, he fits the 3rd line pretty well, and who knows, he could grow to be a top 6. I'm not counting on it though

-The leafs possibly lost a 2nd rounder if the Pens make the post season either of these next 2 seasons, but even then, its not a loss because TML receives a 1st and a 3rd!

Marner is good, although TML was really targeting Strome. Its too early to tell. There's a lot of promise, and hopefully the Leafs won't ruin his career. lol

Finally, Leafs are not going to be great for a while, give it 2-3 years. And they MAY return to the post season. After 5-6 years with Babcock behind the bench, they could be a constant post season team.
