And I think florida will flip brassard and sheehan too. Could end up being a good haul for bjustad and McCann.

When Toronto got Tavares for free they can trade to get the D man they need.

Toronto trades

William Nylander
Timothy Liljegren
1 first round pick

Ottawa trades

Erik Karlsson
sign and trade 8*11 millions

This would make it near impossible to extend important players in the future such as mathews.

2.) 02 Jul 2018 17:03:40
If they trade Nylander for a D it would be for a D making in the same range you expect to pay him ($6 mill) . Not a guy making twice as much, or it defeats the purpose.

3.) 02 Jul 2018 18:00:36
Toronto would have to add a lot more to get Karlsson. a late 1st a decent prospect and a 2nd line winger doesn't get it done essentially if resigned. only way it works like this is if Ryan is involved with no retention which would never happen because it would then for e toronto to also trade marner pr Matthews or both to fit back under the cap. it'll be hard enough for them to get under the cap now without trading 1 of the former big 3.

4.) 02 Jul 2018 19:37:56
@NoBiasRambo are you sure you know what essentially means?

5.) 03 Jul 2018 21:43:53
I think they have room for Karlsson beyond this year too.

Sign Matthews max 9 per year
Marner max 8 per year

Trade Nylander
Trade or let Gardiner walk
Let Hainsey walk
And probably need to get rid of Marleau.

The Penguins where, regarding to Mark Madden, close to a trade but put on hold because of the christmas moratorium on trades."

Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman both discuss the possibility of Pittsburgh moving Letang

Ryan O'Reilly missed last game due to "family reasons"

Could it all add up in a Letang for O'Reilly trade?

Gelias

1.) 25 Dec 2017 16:56:40
It’s a possibility but honestly I don’t thin O’Reilly is a great fit, he’s a natural center and (from what I’ve seen) that is where he really shows his worth, not on the wing. Makes more sense to trade for a high end winger than another center. However, I think it is best for Pens to keep Letang until the deadline atleast and evaluate him them.

2.) 26 Dec 2017 15:31:53
Agree the biggest piece coming back for letang should be a winger. A team like the pens want to upgrade 3rd lone centre, they tried with sheehan, but a 7.5 mill centre is not what they need behind sid and malkin. I could see a decent 3rd line centre coming back in a package, but most of the value would be elsewhere (like a winger or picks to go get a winger with)

Should Toronto trade Nylander to:

Minnesota for Dumba?

or

Winnipeg for Trouba?

Gelias

1.) 08 Oct 2018 13:33:08
Ummm why does Winnipeg need nylander.

2.) 08 Oct 2018 13:51:31
Umm why does a team want a young top 6 player with PPG potential hmm. that’s a really good question.

3.) 08 Oct 2018 15:14:59
Lol ya because Winnipeg has a huge amount of good defence and not great forward depth. Wait that's not right like pay attention to what a team needs.

4.) 08 Oct 2018 15:32:24
Tell that to your Jets homers @TBA, they think Sami Niku is the next coming of Bobby Orr.

5.) 08 Oct 2018 16:20:02
Here we go again. How long will it take for BiasJoe to say all leaf fans are begging for Trouba?

6.) 08 Oct 2018 17:35:58
I think Niku is the next Toby enstrom. Not at the end in his prime when he was good lol.

7.) 08 Oct 2018 17:38:34
Not a good trade for the Jets as Nylander would want more $ than the Jets would be willing to pay. Why trade a young, top pairing, right shot d-man for an unsigned,
albeit good forward. It helps the Leafs way more than it does the Jets.

8.) 08 Oct 2018 17:57:38
Leaf fans. Please stop begging for Trouba. The Jets have no need for Nylander. He'd be a third line winger on the Jets.

9.) 08 Oct 2018 18:34:12
With Connor, Wheeler, Liane, Ehlers the Jets don't need a top 6 winger. I understand Nylander is good and I like him but he really isn't a need in Winnipeg.

10.) 08 Oct 2018 20:42:28
Manson?

11.) 08 Oct 2018 20:52:11
I think if the Leafs can sign Nylander to a reasonable long term contract they would have a better chance to trade him as he would be worth a solid, young #2 right shot d-man. In the cap NHL right now no team wants to inherit a player that may be hard to sign to a good contract.

12.) 08 Oct 2018 21:32:51
I agree with you Islandjet except I think Nylander won't be able to pull down a top pairing defenseman in a trade, unless he's an older one. If they target a young, second pairing defenseman, they might be able to find one.

I just don't see anyone giving up a young, top pairing D for a winger. Especially, a winger that thinks he's worth more than he is in contract negotiations.

13.) 08 Oct 2018 22:38:56
@IJ and Marcus. You both make some valid points, but how come Nylander right now wouldn’t be able to get a good return because teams wouldn’t trade for a guy without cost certainty in a cap world when you have turned down every trade proposal for Trouba and said multiple times “trade him after the season and still get a ton because he’s an RFA and still controllable”? . I’m aware he’s a good Dman but he would still be an unsigned player, demanding huge money and a history of tough negotiations.

14.) 09 Oct 2018 01:19:17
@unbiased
Your point is good but teams would be a little scared of nylander right now because you have a month and a half till he can't play the year. Not a lot of time unless you can talk before hand. Or are a cellar dweller. who would benefit from being worse.

15.) 09 Oct 2018 03:51:41
Jim, that is true. The advantage Trouba has is that he plays one of the two rarest positions in the NHL. So, even next summer, if the Jets have to trade him, Trouba will pull in a large return simply because he is a young, top pairing RHD which pretty much every team in the league would love to have. The reason we turn down the Trouba trades as I said in the last thread, is that none of them to date make the Jets better. Therefore, there is no incentive to do them.

I actually think Nylander will get a good return if traded now. As I said above, I think he can pull in a pretty good second pairing defenseman. The rub comes from Leafs fans insisting that Nylander is elite when he isn't and that he can pull down a top pairing defenseman. Good, not elite, wingers don't have the value to get a top pairing D.

Look at what Hall got in return. A solid second pairing D and he is a far better winger than Nylander.

16.) 09 Oct 2018 04:53:58
Just saying If Trouba holds out next year with 8x$8mill+ demands, which I don’t think is a hot take, it’s quite possible with his history, I don’t see how he’s an easy trade with a good return either. A player, regardless of position is only worth what someone’s willing to pay and he’s been difficult twice already telling me he thinks he’s better than the guys who write the Cheques do.

17.) 09 Oct 2018 09:18:46
Dumba is better then Trouba so why has nobody mentioned Minnesota would laugh at the leafs. They just signed Dumba to a multi yr deal Trouba was not. Personally I’d take Dumba 10/10 times over Trouba.

18.) 09 Oct 2018 18:26:55
I agree MadeInDade. I like Trouba but contract situations considered, it’s not even close.

Laine is an amazing goalscorer and will probably be one of the biggest profiles for the next 15 years. he's basicly a new ovie.

Barkov is a complete player, dominant in all 3 zones. A leader and center you can build a team around. Also on a great contract. he's the new kopitar.

You can win a cup without a laine type of player but i don't think you can win one without a barkov type.

Don't think either team would make the trade though.
