Bear - 4.55 AAV x 6 YRS
Comparable is R. Andersson

Yamamoto - 5.95 AAV x 6 YRS
Comparable is Teravainen / Konecny

Thoughts on these deals?

Oilers will have cap problems and will need to lose salary. Hopefully a compliance buyout can be used on Neal or Russell. But what are the chances Nurse is traded before he needs a new contract in two years?

Has Yamamoto earned the tervainen kocnecy comparison? Oilers won't pay without knowing. He'll get a prove it deal. I think the same for bear, but he'll probably get 5 or 6 years at 4 mil.

I like the Bear deal, I think that is around what he might actually agree to. Oilers got Klefbom for similar and that is now a hell of a bargain considering his workload and consistency but I also think Bear knows he won’t be that guy what with Klefbom still being around and with Bouchard and Broberg in the system. He could be a PP master tho so he shouldn’t accept underpay but I think the number is decent. A hair over $5mil might be closer in my mind.

I think Yamo does a bridge deal. And I think both sides want that. He erupted this season with Drai and RNH but hasn’t really shown such flash with other players so is he versitile? And can he stay consistent? If so, big payday ahead. If it’s a one-off or he’s just good with that trio, I don’t see him getting that much. So I think I’ll be more like $4.25mil/ 2yrs.

I like the Bear deal but not the Yamamoto one he hasn’t earned that yet.

Seems high for both players to me.

Forgot to mention Yamamoto has one more season before needing a new deal. He definitely has more to prove to earn a long term deal but I think with his work ethic and skill he should be able to earn a big deal.
@Chirp, I hadn’t put much thought into Bouchard and Broberg coming up soon. It definitely will effect his value. I just think with his body of work this year he showed he can be a really good top 4 D.
@Habby, there definitely deals looking towards the future. Chayka esc. I’m not a huge fan of bridge deals, some situations it makes sense but I think locking these two up long term will benefit the Oilers in a couple years.
