Ottawa- edm 8th overall pick, Milan Lucic

Edm- 19th pick

Edmonton is desperately trying to get rid of Lucics contract and Ottawa's trying to get to the cap floor trade works for both teams

any retention?

if not, I don't see why ottawa would bother.

they would bother because they get a top 10 draft pick to replace the one they lost for nothing (since duchene got traded again) and they need salary to hit the cap floor as the guy stated. that's why they would bother.

im not necessarily saying ottawa would make this trade, just saying why they would bother.

taking on the worst contract in nhl history to move up a few in the draft doesn't seem like a smart move, there's ways to hit the floor without hurting your roster so significantly.

Do it in a heart beat!

I think add some middling player (that isn’t a cap dump) like Khaira, Benning or some prospect to sweeten. Cause I mean dropping from 8 to 19 may not be enough for 6x4.

Or they could just sign a free agent, yes? % chance 19th works out is about the same as 10th. Ottawa should not take on bad contract. Very wrong way to start a rebuild. Is not good trade for Ottawa.

If it’s the 8th overall pick, Edmonton should not be retaining.

Solid base Edmonton probably adds a decent prospect like Puljujarvi or Bear.

No from ottawa. Lucic is worth barely worth 1 mil a year. 5 mil a year overpayment for 4 years. Everyone knows 8th OVA = how bad lucic contract is.

Fair offer

8OVA, Lucic.

Ahl player.

Oh and btw @NotDelusional2 just because they need to hit the cap floor doesn't mean they will just go take a dump to do someone a favour lol for anyone using that argument and yes you are delusional.

I don’t get it guys. Ottawa isn’t using the money for 4 years anyway. Lucic can take a 4th line role therefore not really taking a spot from anyone significant. The negatives of Lucic don’t really affect them that much, I understand he’s far from a valuable asset but Ottawa should be looking to make moves like this.

Why do people keep saying that lucic is the worst contract in nhl?

Would rather have lucic than Eriksson, neal and kesler.

don't forget seabrook.

That is actually a good trade for each team. Ottawa is in rebuild mode and fans could have Looch's bone crushing hits to have something to cheer for. There is a good player available at 8th pick. Edm loses that 8th pick which is needed but gain some cap flexibility.
