3 way trade
to Columbus
Stone (from Ottawa)

to Ottawa
Bennett (from Calgary)
Smith (from Calgary)
Valimaki (from Calgary)

to Calgary
Panarin (from Columbus)
Condon (from Ottawa)

Mike Smith would likely give Ottawa a better chance to win while also relieving Calgary from his salary which is not something they can work with if he is a mere backup. Panarin is going to leave Columbus, so it seems worth it to swap him with Stone, who may very well stay-- either way it's an expiring UFA but that chance of keeping Stone seems worth moving on from Panarin early. Ottawa would want to get more for Stone but he is an expiring player, and they may simply feel the pressure to get some value at all for him; that being said Bennett is not a total lost cause and could very well thrive with more opportunity than he got behind Calgary's supertalented top 6.

Theres no way ottawa even considers that unless they know for sure stone isn't going to re-sign and that's the best offer they get lol. bottom 6 player, aging goalie with his best days behind him and a young dman. not going to cut it.

Mike smith's contract is not a problem he's a UFA, and losing valamaki and bennet would really hurt. Bennet is actually having a pretty good season this year I don't think Calgary is intrested in moving him for a rental.
If the flames sign panarin I suppose but think would rather see them then take off real cap, like Mike stone or frolik.
