Edmonton Acquires:
Darren Helm [3.80 Million x 3 Years]

Detroit Acquires:
Andrej Sekera [5.50 Million x 3 Years]
Tobias Rieder [2.00 Million x 1 Year]
2020 3rd Round Draft Pick

Contracts are identical lengths, however, Sekera has more term, hence, the draft pick and Rieder are added in. It's possible that Sekera never plays again, so he could be on LTIR, which saves Detroit money, but unlike Horton/ Bolland, it isn't definitive as yet. Rieder could have money retained and be shipped off to a contender for a mid round pick, and as for Edmonton, Helm brings speed to the forward core despite a pricy contract.

I thought Sekera was nearing a return as is? He was a full practice participant in December. Talk was Spooner was waived because if he was claimed it freed up the cap to activate him, and last I saw was end of December looking at a possible early February return. Isn’t Detroit in a worse cap situation than Edmonton right now? I thought I looked at CapFriendly and they had the least space in the league.

Detroit is trying to lose cap space, as jbs said, they're up to the cap.
