Penguins need toughness. They need it to protect their players from Wilson.
They threw away a 1st rd pick for Reeves.

What about this?
Oilers: Lucic (retaining 1 m for this season and then retaining 50% for the remainder of his term)
Penguins: Brassard (5m)

Amount retained must be the same every year.

Then the pens would need a 3rd line center again. So the deal would then be brassard + whatever they give up for 3rd line center for an underachieving lucic. I don't think they to worry too much about Wilson chances are he will be suspended again soon anyway lol.

Unless Crosby can turn him back into a 25 goal power forward menace like he was in Boston. ( which I don't think he can) . why not jus look in the AHL for a tough guy. he will he 6 to 7 hundred thousand . Instead of 6 mill. even with the Oil taking cap. jus, there are better options out there fo a tough guy.

It's sad. cause At one point Lucic was a lot more than a scary physical force. he was a top line guy. I don't failt Chiarelli for the signing. maybe the term. but. at one point the guy was well worth 6M.

Honestly this is terrible Brassard is good and Lucic is beer league journeyman being payed 6 million to let the other team walk around him and score.

Even if you retain, i don't know if you get an asset for Lucic. Brassard is still servicable. Also, i don't think retention works that way, has to be 1mil or 50% throughout the whole term.

That Reaves trade is a bit of a head scratcher. Not sure what Pens we’re thinking on that one. Blues scored Kostin out of the deal. He has real potential that kid. Pens lacking toughness isn’t such a big deal. They have Oleksiak. And enforcers are a dime a dozen. Pittsburgh has a damn good team still. I just hope Leafs can be a team like them in their prime.

Yeah there is a huge difference between olesiak and Reaves. Reaves is the toughest fighter who can skate and put up points. 7 goals 5 assists 12 points. On pace for 14g 10a 24 points. Not bad for a 3rd, 4th line enforcer.

@reswing

And Oleksiak has 4g, 7a for 11 points and is on pace for 8 goals and 22 points. Not bad for a second line defensenan.

Could just be coincidence, but Reaves was traded very shortly after Pens acquired Oleksiak.

And he just got knocked out by Tom Wilson, where Reaves has beat the shot out if Wilson and knocked his but down multiple times. Pens effed up when they traded reaves.
