Couple scenarios for nylander

Tor - nylander, gardiner, gauthier Min - dumba, coyle, eriksson ek or hendricks

Or

Tor - nylander,gardiner
LA - carter, muzzin

Carters contract is a lot more affordable then nylanders will be plus it gives LA the speed and youth they've wanted

Wouldn't Tor want young pieces? Not a Carter type.

I wouldn’t want anything to do with the 2nd deal. I don’t think the 1st one is fair for Minnesota. Gardiner is a UFA so I don’t think he holds much value. I believe he’s a Minnesota boy though, if they want him they’ll sign him in the off season.

Dont kid yourself, if the Leafs were going to trade Gardiner they could get a good deal. There are teams that would give a 1st and a prospect for him even being a UFA. But I don't think the Leafs are trading him.

I agree with Itookdonscherry he could get something similar to what Yandel got.

I’m not worried. I still think he signs right before December 1st which helps our cap situation. Bottom line is an RFA doesn’t have a lot of leverage. He has less when a team performs well without him. He has even less again when another player the same age as him (Kapanen) gets inserted in his spot and is on pace for 32g and 57pts (Nylander 20g/ 61pts) for pennies on the dollar.

I’m only worried redwing if they pay him too much. I’m ok if he comes back at 6.5, or traded, or sits out.

Not worried about Nylander at all. He will either be signed or traded by December 01. Hopefully traded. Having him sit out the season hurts him more than the team. Dubas has to stay firm. We can’t overpay these guys. Message needs to be sent around the league.

Is Mathews gets $12M. Is Nylander really worth $5-6M less? I bet that's the big issue coming from him and his agent.

That’s a Nylander problem. Not a Dubas or Matthews problem.

Dont want him now. Not bitter but think he's not a team guy and might bring cancer into the room. Just trade him and move on.

Well no that's an organization problem. He's not out of line thinking that way. If he was to sign for $6.5M and Mathews $13M. I wouldn't be too happy. They both have a few 60 point seasons. Mathews isn't a whole $6M better than Nylander. That's not anbylander oroblem, That's a legit issue both sides need to figure and work out.

When other GMs around the league have been commenting and saying that Dubas is doing the right thing and that Nylanders agent is never going to get $8 mill from any team in the league, and there’s also a worry that Matthews would get offersheeted at over mcdavid money then I would say yes, in the market determined by the NhL GMs, which is what matters (not your personal thought on it or mine) there is a belief that matthews is worth $5-6 mill more.
