Toronto Trades: William Nylander (RW [Extension] - 7.500 Million x 7 Years) + Andreas Borgman (0.925 Million x 1 Year) + 2020 3rd Round Draft Selection.
Carolina Trades: Jaccob Slavin (LD - 5.300 Million x 7 Years) + Valentin Zykov (LW - 0.675 Million x 2 Years)

Just like Jones/ Johansen, Sergachev/ Drouin, Larsson/ Hall, I feel as though the only way Nylander gets traded is for ONE excellent piece, and other minor throw-ins from both ends. Jones/ Johansen and Larsson/ Hall were both straight up, Serg/ Drouin had some picks here and there, but its mainly player for player.
I feel as though Pesce simply isn't that number one dman that Toronto could need. If we're trading Nylander, I don't want Pesce + Ferland + X Forward, etc. It should be a straight swap imo. Zykov/ Borgman are simply included for positional depth lost. Slavin, although on the left side, is a solid shutdown dman, who would compliment Rielly well if Rielly played the opposite side.
As for Nylander, he'd be able to play 1C or RW on Carolina, and would be able to thrive as the big name in a market which can afford to pay him.

Carolina Lineup:
Teravainen - Nylander - Aho
Foegele - Staal - Williams
Ferland - Wallmark - Svechnikov
McGinn - Roy - Martinook

De Haan - Hamilton
van Riemsdyk - Pesce
Fleury - Faulk

Toronto Lineup:
Marleau - Matthews - Kapanen
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Zykov - Kadri - Brown
Johnsson - Lindholm - Leivo

Slavin - Rielly
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Hainsey.

The way Reilly has played this year and last, he’s not the one playing the opposite side. The shutdown dman moves sides. Anyways, value wise doesn’t seem too far off.

I don’t think it’s great value wise for Carolina tbh. Nylander is great as a winger hasn’t really proven himself as an NHL center and that’s a large contract. Slavin is just as good or better on the back end with a much nicer contract. Even if they are equal talent wise Slavin gets more value from contract and position. I also like Zykov a lot more than Borgman but that’s more personal preference I’m sure.

There’s a lot to like about Slavin. But the thing I like most about him is his contract. If Carolina would make this trade, Leafs would be foolish not to take it. Slavin would be amazing on the team, and would be our replacement for Reilly in a few years when we are forced to trade him because we can’t afford to re-sign him.

Not sure Zykov would be the throw in. He was AHL player of the year last year and looks good so far on a hot Carolina team. They likely want to keep him.

Nylander isn't going to get you a #1 deman, 7-8 million for 20 and 60 points playing with 1 of top players in the league, think leafs take a loss on this one, or let him sit until he's being more reasonable.

Even with Pesce not being that number one D man you want, Are you expecting to get one for wider Nylander?
The rumor is Carolina is willing to part with one of Pesce or Faulk. Because they are both right handed and also have Hamilton on the right side. So they can afford to trade one of those three right handed guys. Not their best left handed guy Slavin. Slavin has more value than Nylander. Come on buddy you're smarter than this.

Lol. Then you want a hot Carolina team to insert this winger hold out into their top line center?
Their top line of Ferland - Aho - Taraveinen are doing fantastic together. 😳😳.

Slavin is closer in value to Mathews then Nylander. Most underrated player in the NHL by far. Slavin>Vlasic.

Assumed this would be the reaction. I personally didn't think Nylander would come close to Slavin, but after Friedman himself said that Ghost + Simmonds for Ny + Gardiner is close [In his books, not an actual proposal or rumor, someone suggested it on an nhl. com video and he said he actually liked the idea], I felt as though we may be undervaluing Nylander.

But the contract dispute 100% discounts Nylander's value. It'll be interesting to see what he'd either get in terms of money from Toronto, or his value on the trade market.

@vb

Slavin is closer to Matthews than Nylander? HAHAHA. Not a chance.

Slavin’s a damn good player, sure, but not without his faults: He’s not exactly outstanding either offensively or defensively. He’s not a heavy hitter, can’t fight, has difficulty clearing the net, and is a real pussy for a guy his size. He’s the same age as Rielly and has barely played half the amount of games. He’s a top 50 defenseman in the game, but not top 20.

Slavin doesn’t get you anywhere close to a player of Matthews caliber, and a player of Nylander’s capability is closer to reality. Leafs have to add, sure. But this trade is not ao far fetched. The love for Slavin expressed here is pure bromance.

@yupp, a HOT Carolina team?!? They have lost 5 straight, 8 of the last 10 lol 5 pts of the last 20 available to them. 7th place in their division. That’s a HOT team? Is this info from the same website where you read ‘leafs are better without Matthews’?

And with 18 goals as a team in those 10 games, there’s no need for them to want to add offense or change up there forward lines? Aho has 0g,2a. Ferland has 1g,0a and Teravainen has 1g0a in the 5 game losing streak. That’s a line that’s ‘doing fantastic together’ on a ‘hot team’?! Lol yeah. Wouldn’t want to mess with that chemistry and winning strategy.

You even say “come on buddy, you’re smarter than this” to TSS while also saying Carolina’s a hot team haha the irony of those 2 responses is amazing. Poetic almost.
