According to TSN The Arizona Coyotes and OEL are working on a long term deal. The Yotes first offer is 8 years $64M. $8M per year. But according to Darren Dreger "that isn't close to what it will take to get it done".

Wow. Is OEL worth more than $8M per year? I would say $8M Max? Like $7-7.5M is what I would want him for.
Interesting. Guess he likes it in Arizona tho, and might not be traded. Guess wait and see.

I read yesterday that there is a lot of work to be done on it and it doesn’t necessarily mean he wants to stay. He could be saying it’s going to take more than $8 mill to convince him to stay.

Also the story says that the coyotes wanted to know where they stand with him 100% by the draft. Which tells me he’s as likely to be traded as he is to sign at this point. If he doesn’t come off his 8x8+ demand by then they could swap him at the draft.

Was the Mathews for oel trade real? If so Arizona made a mistake.

there was speculation that leafs were interested in OEL (who wouldn’t be) around the time when leafs won the draft lottery and Arizona came out and said they weren’t interested in trading him. Ppl brought up the idea of getting a local kid in Matthews and Arizona said they weren’t trading OEL again. It was never actually offfered, I imagine it was a GM knowing he wasn’t going to be offered that anyway, so he used the opportunity to pump his own players tires and keep him happy. If you watch babcocks reaction at the draft when they get Matthews, he was never going to be traded. He knew his job just got a lot easier.
