No from Toronto. Dermott is going to be better than Tanev in a couple of seasons and Kapanen is starting to show he’s a very capable NHL player with huge upside. Tanev has another 2-3 years before his production starts to drop off significantly.

What do you mean production? He’s not a guy that will get points and Toronto doesn’t need one. They want a guy that can hold the fort down and he’s capable of doing that for a long time for Toronto and he’s got a very reasonable cap hit to go along with that.

I agree that you can’t judge tanev on points, and if I’m Vancouver I would want quite a bit for him, but I wouldn’t give those 2 kids for him. They have both been really bright spots over the last month or so in the NHL and in the AHL before that. Only 20 and 21. Dermott looks like he’s the type of D that’s going to excel in the league. Insanely good skater. Never know this early, and haven’t been sold on a leafs D prospect other than Rielly in the last 7-8 years, but this kid looks legit.

Never said anything about point totals, production doesn’t always mean points. I’m talking mainly about his advanced stats, for example his Corsi rating, expected shots against while on the ice, high danger chances given up, etc. Maybe you aren’t aware of those. As players get older, especially defensemen, their skating takes a hit and therefore so does their overall defensive play. So, like I said originally, in 2-3 years Tanev will certainly be worse than he is now, which is right around where the leafs will be contending for a cup, and Dermott and Kapanen will both be 22-23 years old. So tell me, why on earth does Toronto make that trade?

I believe you mean the monster not the monstee. And he was a free agent signing that had multiple teams bidding on him. It didn’t work out, don’t remember anyone calling for him to win the vezina tho lol and no one is saying dermott is great, in my response I even said it’s only been a month and it’s too early to say for sure but he’s a great skater and has a chance. How is that over valuing? Lol you’re a clown.
