Marner and nylander would be off the table in a trade unless it’s for a great Dman (not necessarily 1 for 1) might need to add, but if leafs lose a really good offensive player and gain a mediocre Dman and a cpl weak assets, the teams a lot worse.

Also, not saying Lind won’t be a good player, he could be great, but if he was such a sure thing to be a stud by age 20 as you suggest, teams would not have passed up on him 32 times. He’s as much of a question mark at this point as 20 guys picked ahead of and behind him.

And Alex ovechkin is a winger who’s offensive numbers will blow Johnny toews out of the water, and yet toews has 3 cups, conn smyth, selke, Olympic golds. A great 2 way centre will win you championships long before a point producing winger. Ideally you want toews and Kane like the hawks obviously do. You never want to choose between them, but you have to take the centre. Especially in the leafs case because Matthews has a legit good chance to be better than toews, and marner has a massive uphill climb to even be close to Kane.
