Massive over payment. Patches is having such a bad year and his value is way down.

Salary cap? Penguins already have a goal scoring winger that doesn’t do much else in kessel. Problem is he makes a lot more money. Patches would be a nice cheaper replacement but until a lot of money is moved out, I don’t see this as possible. And if someone was to take kessel, you wouldn’t get the value for him that you will pay for pacioretty because the cap hit, then you give up more assets for patches. In the end the teams worse, you just shed a bit of salary.

If Montreal gets a 1st and a prospect for Patches they should take it. I doubt any team will give up a roster player. If they do it will not be a young defender.
