Colorado: Eric Johnson ( 1 mil retained )

Leafs- Get exactly what they need a true 2 was number 1 RHD who can play 30 min a night and match up with any line. Morgan Rielly and him would make the perfect pair

Colorado-Huge shake up to there team and helps fill there prospect pool Kappenen can step into a top 9 role with PK and Top 6 potential. Dermotte is a good prospect not amazing but could pan out into a decent NHLer and the 1st is self explanatory.

salary cap? they still have to resign matthews, nylander and marner soon amongst other young guns. if they can swing this deal with it still falling within the cap sure. though i don't think johnson is the defenceman leafs need. could be a good veteran presence but may be able to get someone younger and a bit cheaper or go through their system. from what it looks like leafs are taking their time and doing a proper build rather than quick fixes.

PKane you say he’s not the defensman they need but he is exactly what they need. I’ve heard mentions of Hamilton (not great defensively and unproven playing 25+ min consistently ) J. Faulk ( small and 1 dimensional ) T. J Bodie ( not a top pairing guy and LHD ) Noah Hanfin ( could be something like Eric Johnson but a LHD ) Eric Johnson is exactly the type of dman they need. He dose everything right And dosent make many mistakes and is very underrated IMO. A sad mans Ryan Suter. Morgan Rielly is their top offensive dman. Also Eric Johnson is worth the future cap penalty’s they can make it work tho without breaking the big 3. In the perfect world they sign Doughty in a few years and trade Marner but that’s a pipe dream this is much more reasonable and maybe it’s an overpay but all of Toronto’s pieces are expendable unlike the big 3.
