Not putting much weight into this, but there are some rumblings after Marc Bergevin was attending the Islanders game. Apparently not the first game either.
The speculation in the article i read was a 3 way trade with the Avs, but still don't think MTL has the assets to get anything done anymore. Another sad day for Habs fans.

As of two days ago Bergevin had been to 4 Islanders games. More than his own teams games.
Heavy speculation that with approx $8.5M in cap space he is pushing real damn hard for Tavares and that everyone is available for trades expect for Price, Weber, Drouin, Mete. Even Paciorety is available.
So what do they have to trade with any bit of value that could fetch Tavares. Or just wait until off season and give him a blank cheque basically?

I've read that :

Montreal : Tavares, Leddy

NYI: Pacioretty, Duchesne, 2nd 2018 MTL, Lindgreen,

AVS : Galchenyuk, Juulseen.

Believe me, i'd be damn happy if Tavares came over to the Habs, but i don't think that deal would do it at all.

Avs did not hold out this long to get galchenyuk and juulsen for him lol no way sakic does that. If he signs that, he might as well resign after. Better to keep Duchene and attempt to repai fractured relationship and use his production at 6 mill than take galchenyuk at 4.9 and only get juulsen as an extra.

The fact that Galchenyuk got 44 points compared to Duchenes 41 in less games kinda shows that Duchene is at an all time low in trade value and the fact that Colorado would get a dman prospect would make them come out winning. Montreal gets their bonafide #1 center that they desperately need and islanders get a good roster replacement for Tavares in Duchene and a first line winger in Pacioretty.

Galchenyuk had bit better season offensively speaking last year but Duchene has a track record of 6-7 years before that of putting up good numbers including 70 pt seasons and 43 in 48 in lockout year. Numbers that galchenyuk hasn't been close to and I would bet never does reach. Last year was miserable for Duchene and the whole avs team, if he was 33 years old I might think his value takes a big hit because people may think it's the beginning of a decline. But at 26, it's a blip on the radar of a good career. He's built for the way the game is now with speed and skill and will be a good player for years. Because of last season, teams will low ball offer sakic for sure, try to steal him, but it's only logical to assume that's already happened as this has been going on for a year and he's still there. They aren't going to accept it now.

Sakic obviously has more faith in Duchene returning to form than he has in anything he's been offered or he would have started the season elsewhere. And I'd be shocked if they weren't offered galchenyuk in a package at some point because he was apparently shopped a lot this summer and habs wanted Duchene. Only makes sense they already turned that down.
