That's a HARD pass from leafs lol they said they're happy with the D they have unless the perfect guy at the right price hits the market. Don't see tanev as that guy and don't see that price as any kind of bargain.

Replace Kappy with Brown and the 1st with a 2nd.

Decent trade. Maybe add a 3rd or 4th rounder from Van.
But pretty good.

He's the exact type of player they would go after but that is a bit too much.

Tanevs name has been in the Rumor mill for a while and I've never seen him linked to Toronto by any credible source. I think if they were interested in him, at least rumblings or partial conversations would have been reported. Don't think he's the guy they want. I don't think he's good enough to be considered a big upgrade on what they have. If they were going for someone late 20s I believe it would be a superstar. If they went for someone in tanevs skill range, I believe it would be for someone younger that they think could be much better eventually.

He is an upgrade over Hainsey, Borgman, Rosen and Carrick.

I didn't say he wasn't an upgrade on anyone. He is. I said he's not a big enough upgrade to pay Bracco, Kapanen and a first lol or even as someone else suggested Bracco, Brown and a 2nd. If that's the cost of having tanev over Rosen or carrick, I'll wait it out and see what we have in house. It seems so long ago now that leafs were tearing it down but in reality it's year 2 of the rebuild process. See what you have before trading 1st's and good prospects for marginal upgrades. Get a superstar sure thing, like a doughty, or see what we have. Anything in between is asking to look bad in a cpl years.
