Tavares is top 10 in the league. I like RNH and I think he'll have his best season yet but he along with a late/ mid first isn't getting Tavares.

I don't know if van city is that far off. Draisatl looks like he's going to be great but he has done it for one season and a good playoff run. Anyone who has seen the nhl/ international game for the last 8 years (excepts senskill apparently) knows how good Tavares is. He's a guaranteed star, draisatl is very close to a sure thing. Not saying oilers should do it, but value wise, you are going to be paying them both huge dollars and one has proven for 6 times as long what he is. And there is the age gap but it's not like one is 21 and the other is 32. An 8 year extension on Tavares would still have him from 27-35.

@Vancity: Drai+? No. I agree that the OP is absurd but Drai is making a name for himself and is younger. Straight up is more reasonable but I'd rather Edm keeps Drai.

As for the proposal, Klefbom or Larsson would need to be added by Edm, and possibly a prospect like Benson. In other words, FAR too much to make Isles bite. Would ruin what Edm has going. Trade makes no sense for Edm.

I don't think they would/ should either. But draisatl for Tavares is a lot closer than the original and also makes more sense. If oilers did want Tavares, islanders would want a great piece+ (draisatl) or 3-4 good pieces (RNH, Benson, caguilla and a pick )

Even the first one would be very risky for Snoe. Drai had one very good playoff series where he shot over 30%. He was invisible vs the Sharks. He may turn out to be good, very good or even exceptional. Tavares is exceptional.

I'm not a oilers fan but even I know that a 1st and nuge can draw a great return.

Yes Tavares is worth a little bit more under normal cercumstanses however it's no secret he wants out of nyi. Because of this he will lose the extra value. Does nyi prefer to get something like nuge and a 1st for him or risk him walking to free agency and getting nothing back?

At least nuge is top 6 material with greater potential and a 1st is a great chance at a player who will play in nhl at some point.

And you know for a fact that Tavares wants to leave? I don't know that he doesn't, wouldn't be shocked if he does, but he has given less indication that he wants out of New York than stamkos did about leaving Tampa (liking tweets and a few slips of the tongue to the media) and yet he's a lightning still for the next 7 years. You don't know what he's going to do and you have no way of knowing he is forcing Garth snows hand or thatvthe isles feel the pressure.

I'm not really responding to the trade here, but where the hell did I miss Kassian being the top-line RW? Tavares to the Oilers doesn't happen in any realm, so there's not much sense talking about it.
