Rumor has it that McDavids getting 8 yrs × 13 million.

Oilers need to get rid of the excess cap space if they want to keep Leon.
But if it doesn't work, how far off is this deal?

I think you would have to add to get Draisaitl, but because of the cap situation they wouldn't be able to take too much on. Parayko on EDM would be nice though.

Well if anyone is worth that, it would be him. but i'd still figure a way to keep Drais. ya that will be probably 20 to 21 million for 2 guys. but I think would be worth it.

Its obviously not prefered to trade Draisaitl, but Chiarelli woukd want to sign him close to 8, whereas he won't want to make much less than McDavid. That could be why a deal like this is possible.

Still at 8 for Drais, and 13.5 for McDavid, isn't much off what Kane and Toews get together. and the Oilers pair are younger and more dynamic. time will tell if they can have same team success as Hawks, but they are well on there way. Chiarelli is smart, and has figured away to build this team. with not one. but 2 supreme building blocks in McDavid and Draisaitl., he can make it work.

If McD signs for 13.5 i don't think Drais will go as low as 8 a season.

If McDavid gets $13.25M a year it's the same percentage of the cap as Crosby got when he signed his.
It's NOT as bad as it first seems.
Nuge will be gone during or after this season.
Their D is locked up for good money. Goalie as well.

Nuge $6M gone after his season. Same with Poo $4M. And Faynes $3.5M.
Mate if they have to have to, can trade Sekera and his $5.5M away. But once Nuge is gone the only big contracts the Oilers will have is McDavid, Drai and Lucic. They are fine!
Pens had Crosby eating %17 of their cap and still managed to have Malkin, Letang, MAF and Kessel and win multiple cups.

Oilers will be fine. Once some of those other big contracts are gone and they can add some depth they will be even more dangerous.

I wouldn't be shocked if draisatl asks for over 10 mill. Mcdavid is obviously worth every penny but its a tough number to start with. When Crosby took his 17% (8.7 mill) malkin said "thanks for taking that discount sid, I want 9.5 mill" and he got it. Not saying draisatl will do it, but it's an eerily similar situation. That's the equivilant of draisatl saying I want $15 mill. I wouldn't be so sure they have no money problems yet. 15 mill is insane, but not a chance would I take 5.5 mill less than mcdavid. That's equally insane.
