The Rangers have some RFAs to sign this and next summer (Zibanejad/Hayes, Miller, Vesey Skjei) and need to deal with some terrible contracts from the past. Rick Nash is off the books after next season. Nobody will take Girardi. But the biggest problem down the road would be Henrik Lundqvist. He's already 35 and his cap hit is 8,5M for 4 more years! With strong play of Raanta, the Rangers should consider trading The King while he's still got some value. He has a NMC so let's assume he would waive it to go to a team which A) needs a starter B) has a chance to compete for the Cup C) doesn't play in the East D) obviously has the cap space for his contract. The answer is: Dallas Stars.

To DAL:
Henrik Lundqvist

To NYR:
Kari Lehtonen (cap dumb - probably bought out)
2nd and 3rd in 2017 (NYR get back what they gave up for Brendan Smith)

The value isn't high because of the big cap of Lundqvist. This allows NYR to sign their RFAs and maybe Kevin Shattenkirk or other TOP4 RHD. The Stars get an experienced starter who they were looking for a long time.

This all depends on if Hank waives his no-trade clause. IMO if u wanna see if Raanta can be a starter then keep Hank for next season and just have him split the net with Raanta. Then trade him to either Carolina or Dallas or whoever desperately needs a d-man.

I'm pretty sure the king isn't moving.

Idk. With the cap dump of Lehtonen, it basically cancels out the 2nd. I feel like two seconds + someone like Curtis McKenzie/ Mark McNeill would be better. If Lehtonen wasn't in this, the deal would be fine. But because of him and his atrocious contract, there got to be little bit more upside for NYR tbh.

I don't see Dallas or most of the nhl gms picking up the cap hit of 8.5 million for an aging goalie. Super bad contract. You have Ben bishop, fluery, and a few other options before an 8.5 million lundqvist. I just don't see anyone willing to help nyr out of cap hell.

Lundqvist for Lehtonen (arguably negative value) and a 2nd and 3rd in a fairly weak draft? Are you high? Even with Lundqvists age, salary and somewhat of a decline Rangers easily keep him over that.
