At the draft:

James van Riemsdyk LW (4.25/ 1yr)
Jake Gardiner D (4/ 2yrs)
Kasperi Kapanen RW (.900/ 2yrs)

Toronto Maple Leafs:

Jacob Trouba D (3/ 1yr)
Josh Morrissey D (.900/ 1yr)
2nd 2018

Well then the Jets would just have to go and get another LHD so this kinda defeats the purpose.

I think you take out kasperi and that's a solid trade.

why would the jets trade two of their best young defensmen for a downgrade defensemen and wingers who don't even fit with their plan.

Cause their "plan" worked really well this year right?

No team isn't going to make the playoffs every single year, they have young players in every position, they don't need to trade anybody. Do you honestly think at the draft, that this trade would go through? Probably if you're a biased leaf fan.

Detroit for several years actually. And do I think it would go through, no not at all. But if I'm being perfectly honest Morrissey is probably going to be a very similar player to Gardiner when he's fully developed, maybe a bit better. To say that they don't fit in with their plan though is nonsense. JVR gives them secondary scoring, Kapanen adds depth. Gardiner gives them a left handed dman that they lack. They actually do fit in very well with the direction the Jets are headed. However, their priority should be finding a goalie because that is the only reason why they are competing for a playoff spot.
