If the Blues are truly trying to trade Shattenkirk as a "Rental" then this trade proposal is more then fair, both Shatty and Polak are UFAs after this season so both can sign anywhere so for the Blues getting Dermott and a 1st Rounder for a player who isn't going to resign is a positive move for them.

For the Leafs Shattenkirk would probably put the Leafs in the playoffs, yes this is only year 2 of the rebuild but this years draft not being a great one I believe there thinking would be that it won't affect what they are doing in the big picture, and Shattenkirk playing in Toronto would only help in resigning him after this season.

even as a rental player, I don't think that is enough. not shattenkirk fan, but may get more.

Yes that makes perfect sense for a team rebuilding to give up a 1st and a prospect for a rental player. After all its only year one of the rebuild, they should be ready for a cup run by now. And yes that was sarcasm. Brutal trade proposal.

Giller23 if this was a deep draft no way the Leafs trade there 1st Rounder but it isn't and adding Shatty will only make that pick higher not lower, Dermott looks to be an NHL DMan but they can draft another Dermott type in the future plus you have to give to get, the Blues aren't giving Shattenkirk away.

idk why you guys aren't agreeing that this isn't fair. I may argue its too much from the leafs. That pick is between 10 and 16 plus Dermott who was a high second rounder plus Polak who could probably get a third at the deadline. I'd say no from leafs, especially considering Shattenkirks attitude towards a trade.
