Toronto has many problems, but I think they need to start by addressing Dion Phaneuf. First of all, Phaneuf isn't the sole reason for Toronto's collapse, but he is a significant reason. I think Toronto needs to trade Phaneuf for some picks and prospects, and then use those picks/prospects to go out an acquire a guy like Seabrook and another top 4 dman.

Phaneuf possible trades:

To Edmonton: Dion Phaneuf
To Toronto: 1st round pick 2014 (3rd overall)

OR

To San Jose: Dion Phaneuf

To Toronto: Brent Burns, 1st 2014

*Dan Boyle likely leaving sometime in the next few years, Phaneuf can be a #2 dman behind Vlasic*

OR

To Tampa Bay: Dion Phaneuf

To Toronto: Matt Carle, 2nd round pick 2015

More like to edm phaneuf
To TO 3rd round pick that all he is worth

2.) 21 Apr 2014
All of those trades are overpayments. Dion Phaneufs value is very low atm due to his play and his contract.

3.) 21 Apr 2014
Phaneuf is not worth a top 5 pick. Not even close.

4.) 21 Apr 2014
Everybody says Phaneuf is garbage, but he's not nearly as bad as people think he is.

5.) 21 Apr 2014
Phaneuf is the significance for the toronto collapse? wow you don't know anything about hockey. Pointing out a single player as the reason to a 8 game lose streak. Why won't you think about going out there and getting a dman like yandle or niskanin to play with phaneuf so he has a proper d partner. Also, a coach change who understands how phenuf should be player would be a bonus too, we got to stop forcing him to play shutdown dman minutes and role. he's a weapon and we use him as a did shutdown guy.

6.) 21 Apr 2014
Dion Phaneuf is not the problem

7.) 22 Apr 2014
Phaneuf was a -20 in last 6 weeks. No other nhl player was close in last 6 weeks. brutal and lazy.

8.) 22 Apr 2014
It's not that Phaneuf is that bad. He can actually be pretty good.
His contract however is utterly ridiculous.
Hence why he's worth jack.

9.) 22 Apr 2014
Phaneuf should only play 18-20 min per game any more than that and he makes bad decisions we need a #1 dman who can stay at home and play the big defensive minutes
